Airship Guide!

This will be the first of a few useless guides that I've been meaning to post ^^ the information in this guide is well known, but for the sake of sillyness, away I post!

The Airship Guide

The Grand Dutchy of Jeuno!

This is the city of Jeuno, a city every level 20+ player is quite familiar with. Jeuno, as I've heard certain NPCs say, keeps the construction of airships a secret from the three nations, which are all dependent on Jeuno for its convenient trade avenue. Any character can complete a quest to gain an airship pass to get to Kazham, but only rank 5+ characters can ride airships from one of the three nations to Jeuno, or the other way (unless you change your allegience, I'm not sure about that ^^`).

Taken from Kazham Bay (I fell through the pier ; ;).

And this is an airship, in all of its glory. While it's the only way to Elshimo Island (mechanically speaking. Ships have been going back and forth for a long while, storyline-wise, but Norg makes the trip dangerous), airships in general provide an alternative means of transportation from any of the starting cities to Jeuno and back again. What would take a rider on a chocobo about 20ish minutes takes an airship rider 5. Additionally, quests can be collected by an NPC standing at the airship docks of the three cities, which give you something to do on the ride, as well as reward you with 500 gil, essentially refunding your tickets (these quests cannot be done when leaving Jeuno by airship).

A Passenger.  They can get to places that we can't ; ;

So, what can be done on an airship? Well, a few things. First of all, you could always go AFK for five mintues (returning late will not put you back onto the airship once it has landed, you spawn in on the dock). Second, as I mentioned earlier, you can preform the airship quest, in which you are shown an NPC at the docks, and you must pick him/her out of many other similar-looking people. Finally, there's The Glitch!

The Airship Glitch

This can only be done if you are playing FFXI on a PC. I've heard from one player that X-Box players were able to do it at one point, but can no longer, however I've only heard this from one person. The general consensus is, it's a PC only thing.

Basically, this glitch allows you to stand on the railing of the airship ^^ which is cool, seeing as FFXI characters are generally unable to do much that doesn't involve running around and falling down pits ; ;

X marks the spot ^^

First, you must find the proper point at which you will climb. There are technically four points at which you can climb, but the one depicted in the picture is by far the best, in my experience.

The Point of Glitch.

See what I'm pointing at? The railing angles just a little bit. This is where we will be climbing.

This usually doesn't take long, if you know how to do it.

You need to run into this spot. You'll see your character move up and down (on the Z axis, that is) as you do this. I find that if you run into the spot, and turn right just a tiny bit, you'll hop right up. I usually turn the camera while running forward to accomplish this. DO NOT USE AUTO RUN! Also, after the first few seconds, your finger may press down harder on the W key in a subconcious effort to run forward better. Make sure to refrain from this.

/hurray!!!

And you're up! Be careful to stop as soon as you climb up. This is why we don't use autorun or push down really hard, stopping quickly is key. Otherwise, you'll fall over the side ; ; You don't actually fall off, you'll be standing on the side of the airship. This will be hilarious the first time, but afterward, it'll just be frustrating, because you can't move at all once you fall overboard. So, what now, you might ask?

It's dangerous over there ; ;

Well, you can walk back and forth ^^ or, you can go where Treah is indicating in the picture. Be careful not to fall off when creeping up the steep railing. You can walk on the white tarp, and get over to that main rotor. You can even fall in, and pretend like you're in a blender 0.0

Ahhh...such a great view ^^

Finally, you can fall down here, and watch as Jeuno approaches ^^

Well, this concludes the airship guide ^^ tune in next week for, "How To Tie Your Shoes." :P
